Will Jolly Be A Packer?

GREEN BAY, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) It’s not clear when – or if – Green Bay defensive lineman Johnny Jolly will report to the Packers’ organized team activities which are now in their second week.

There was talk that the 30-year-old Jolly would practice this week, after he completed a drug rehabilitation program last week in his home town of Houston. Jolly and his agent are not talking, and coach Mike McCarthy will only say there’s a quote, “process” Jolly is going through. But the coach did say after yesterday’s practice that Jolly and everyone else deserves second-chances in life.

Jolly was re-instated earlier this year, after a three-year suspension that followed a series of arrests in Houston for codeine possession. Packers’ defensive line coach Mike Trgovac said he spoke with Jolly and his mother as often as he could under league rules over the past three-plus years.

Trgovac said he cares about Jolly as a person, but he cannot say what type of shape he’s in. The coaches say it remains to be seen if Jolly can still perform on the field – especially after the Packers drafted four new defensive linemen over the past two years.
