State Senate committee to recommend 4 GAB appointees

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - The state Senate Elections Committee is scheduled Wednesday afternoon to recommend four appointees to the Government Accountability Board.

That includes former Congressman and Appleton judge Harold Froehlich. He was named after Governor Scott Walker withdrew his latest appointment of incumbent David Deininger.

Walker said the Senate refused to confirm Deininger's reappointment, and that's why he pulled it last month. Deininger was the board's chairman during last year's recall elections against Walker and several senators.

At the time, Senate GOP leader Scott Fitzgerald questioned some of the board's decisions regarding the recalls -- and at one time, he talked about going back to the partisan Elections and Ethics boards that the Accountability Board replaced.

Board officials said both parties had beefs with the agency, and they played everything right down the middle like they're supposed to.

Also Wednesday, the Senate Elections panel will vote on three other Walker appointees to the accountability board -- former Milwaukee judge Elsa Lamelas, and holdover members Tim Vocke and Gerald Nichol.
