JANESVILLE, WI (WTAQ) - State wildlife officials are urging hunters to have their deer tested for chronic wasting disease.
The Janesville Gazette says there are signs that the fatal deer brain disease is on the rise.
The DNR hopes to have at least 500 deer tested in the Rock County area, as part of a statewide effort to get a new handle on CWD.
Apparently, hunters are showing the same concerns. A shop that registers deer has not had a single person turn down a test for chronic wasting disease.
The bow and deer season has been going on for a month-and-a-half, but the big deer numbers come during the traditional nine-day gun season which begins on Saturday.
