New State Record For Bow Hunted Deer

WAUKESHA, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) A deer taken by an bow-and-arrow hunter in Waukesha County has set a new state record.  Jim Baker has been given the record for the non-typical archery deer.  The Wisconsin Buck-and-Bear Club gave it a total score of 249-and-five-eighths inches.

The animal was taken September 18th.  Trophy deer need 60 days to dry before they're measured for the record books.

The previous record for an archery buck was 243-and-six-eighths inches, set by Wayne Schumacher of Fond du Lac in 2009.  The state record for a non-typical buck taken by any method is 253-inches.  Elmer Gotz shot that deer in 1973 in Buffalo County.

The state numbers are well short of the world record of 294 inches, set in 2000 in Ohio.
