ANTIGO, Wis (WSAU) The alleged leader of a drug ring involving staff in the Antigo and Merrill school districts was indicted on federal charges yesterday. The U.S. Attorney claims 35-year-old John Hunter was distributing cocaine and marijuana. He was caught with more than 50-kilos of pot and 500-grams of cocaine. Yesterday he was indicted on one count of possession with intent to distribute illegal substances.
Drug use among staff in Antigo led to the resignation of elementary school principal and football coach John Lund. 15 people were charged.
Prosecutors say Hunter distributed drugs in Wausau and Antigo, and used a golf course near Bass Lake to meet many of his clients.
Hunter is facing 50 additional drug-related counts in Langlade County court. He's scheduled for a plea hearing there on Tuesday.
