Start of Obamacare was rough for Wisconsinites

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - The first hours of Obamacare got off to a rough start in Wisconsin.

Workers at the Progressive Community Health Centers in Milwaukee had trouble logging onto Healthcare.Gov.

That's the Web site where up to 700,000 Wisconsinites will use the federal government's purchasing exchange to buy the health insurance they're required to have by January 1st.

Tuesday is the first day that people who need the exchanges start using them. The Progressive facility was afraid it might have to cancel appointments with those who need help in signing up.

However, by late morning, reporters were easily able to access Healthcare.Gov and its drop down menus which answered a host of questions. Getting a live voice on the phone was another story, though.

The Obamacare entitlement continues despite the federal government shutdown -- but federal workers who were supposed to help with the coverage sign-ups were sent home for now.

Meanwhile, the Dane County Job Center in Madison saw only 5 people who asked about the exchanges in the first hour the site was open.
