Two weeks after its season premiere, The Voice wrapped up its blind auditions Monday night. By the end of the two-hour episode, coaches Adam Levine , Blake Shelton , Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green had each rounded out his or her team of 12.
Here are the highlights from Monday's show:
Matt Cermanski , 20, returned to The Voice stage after an unsuccessful audition last season, when he performed Katy Perry 's "Teenage Dream." This time around, he played John Hiatt 's "Have a Little Faith in Me" on his acoustic guitar. Adam, who recalled that Matt's first audition was "weird" due to the song choice, made a strong pitch to the artist to join him. Matt ended up choosing Adam over Blake and Cee Lo.
Gospel singer Tamara Chauniece belted out Beyonce 's "1+1." Cee Lo and Christina both made a bid for Tamara, with Cee Lo saying both the performance and the artist were beautiful. Tamara told both coaches she would go with her gut, and then selected Cee Lo.
Brandon Chase applied his smooth voice to Hunter Hayes ' "Wanted." Afterward, he said he was just happy to be alive after he stopped breathing 64 times in a 12-hour period just days after being born. He had the opportunity to pair up with either Cee Lo or Blake. Christina attempted to nudge Brandon in Blake's direction by noting that both were wearing plaid. Blake will indeed serve as Brandon's coach.
A 25-year-old wedding singer from Jacksonville, Florida, who referred to herself only as Grey , sang the Kelly Clarkson tune "Catch My Breath." Adam, Blake and Cee Lo all pressed their buttons for Grey. In a humorous moment, Blake's chair inexplicably turned around a second time -- causing him to face the audience again --- after the performance ended. Grey fills Adam's 12th and final spot on his team.
Dominic Scott Kay , 17, has a strong entertainment background. He's acted in such movies as Minority Report and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End ; in fact, a former co-star, Neal McDonough , showed up to his audition to lend his support. In addition, Kay's father is the drummer for The Commodores . Kay sang The Commodores' "Easy," but he failed to advance.
Aspiring Latin artist Michael Lynch , who's actually Irish, had Blake, Christina and Cee Lo vying for his services after covering the Enrique Iglesias hit "Bailamos." Christina said it sounded a bit like Michael Jackson . Michael felt a kinship with Christina, who has an Ecuadorian background and has recorded music in Spanish, and picked her. With the addition of Michael, Christina's team was set.
Country crooner Brian Pounds sang "Wagon Wheel," recorded by the likes of Old Crow Medicine Show and Darius Rucker . He occupies the last spot on Team Blake.
It was guaranteed that the final artist of the night, Shawn Smith , would go to Cee Lo's team, since Cee Lo was the only coach with an opening. Shawn performed the Zac Brown Band hit "Chicken Fried."
Tuesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern time, NBC will air a two-hour recap of the blind auditions. Next Monday, The Voice will kick off its battle rounds, which will introduce this season's mentors: Cher for Blake's team, Ryan Tedder for Adam's team, Miguel for Cee Lo's team, and Ed Sheeran for Christina's team.
