WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU) - As the debate of the debt ceiling and the new healthcare law continues, Rep. Sean Duffy says he'd like a chance to continue talks with the president.

In a conference call with the press, Congressman Sean Duffy says he's open to talks with the White House over a short extension of the budget so long as they can talk about health care. "If we can have an opportunity to have the President engage in this dialog so we can resolve some of the issues that we have, I think that's very positive and that's something that I would support."

Duffy says it's unfair that there's a delay in health care mandates for business and not for individuals. "I think it's only fair that I push back for their equal treatment under the law. And if the President's going to give this to big business, I think it's only fair that they give it to families in Wisconsin and around America."

He's also in favor of talks over the debt ceiling, which needs to be handled this week in order to keep the government solvent. Duffy says he'd like a chance to sit down and work out how to stop raising the debt limit. "I'm willing to go for a short term extension that's clean, so we can sit down and figure out how our government is sustainable, that we make sure we protect our kids and our next generation from the looming debt crisis."

Talks between Republican leaders and the White House continued over the weekend without much in the way of immediate progress. Senate leaders are working out a possible compromise over the battle.
