MADISOn, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Wisconsin football coach Gary Andersen says he's hopeful that receiver Jared Abbrederis can play at Illinois on Saturday.
The senior suffered a head injury in the Badgers' win over Northwestern this past Saturday -- but it's not clear when it happened. Andersen says he'll know more in the next 48 hours.
Abbrederis is the leading receiver for the 25th-ranked Badgers, with 35 catches in his senior year for 646 yards and five touchdowns. The injury may have happened on Wisconsin's second offensive play, when Abbrederis caught a pass and was hit helmet-to-helmet by Wildcats' safety Traevon Henry. Quarterback Joel Stave said it's possible the receiver was hurt on that play, but the team's medical staff could not say for sure.
Abbrederis stayed in the Badgers' lineup for the next four possessions, and he caught a 63-yard touchdown pass during that stretch in which he was wide open. The Badger bench got concerned on the team's next possession, after Abbrederis bobbled an easy catch that caused an interception.
