STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - Maybe the third time's the charm.
Stevens Point officials have been redeveloping the former Centerpoint Marketplace property, which included keeping Shopko on the east end, turning the Penney’s wing into the new site for Mid-State Technical College, and saving one part of the central mall formerly occupied by Dunham Sports.
Two previous attempts to secure a tenant for the former Dunham building have fallen through. Mayor Andrew Halverson confirms they are working with an interested party. "We are entertaining a lease, and negotiating that lease right now with a prospective tenant. We hope to have that official, and able to be worked through the decision making process in open session (of city council.)"
The Mayor says it is early in the negotiations, and there is still work to do, so he cannot reveal who the interested party is.
Halverson would not say if the potential tenant is a retail business, another type of prospective business, or an educational facility.
