WESTON, Wis. (WSAU) - Governor Walker made an appearance in Weston last night to honor central Wisconsin job creators.
The dinner was part of the state's Manufacturing Month and hosted by MCDEVCO at Dale's Weston Lanes.
Walker told the crowd that he was happy to help celebrate a vibrant part of the local economy. “The industry is the backbone of our economy, and that’s why our efforts to improve Wisconsin’s business climate are so important. If we want our state’s economy to grow and remain competitive in the global marketplace, we’ve got to keep improving. We’ve come a long way since the economic downturn, but there’s a lot more work to be done.”
Manufacturing and related industries account for nearly 40 percent of Marathon County's economy. The county has a wide variety of factories, including food production, paper and wood, metal fabrication and heavy equipment.
