Reymundo Perez child death trial delayed again

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - It appears the trial of a man accused of causing the death of a toddler two years ago is getting delayed again.

27-year-old Reymundo Perez is accused of throwing 2-year-old Felix Espinoza-Villa to the ground twice October 26th of 2011 because he would not stop crying. The child died two days later.

According to court documents, Perez was babysitting the child for his girlfriend at his trailer in Bancroft.

The trial was delayed twice before, and was scheduled to last nine days beginning December 4th. Defense attorneys say an expert witness would be available by video in March, if the court approves.

The case is complicated by accusations of the child's mother beating the child with a sandal and rhinestone-studded belt buckle. Investigators believe the child’s severed spinal cord and blunt force injuries to the head and stomach were caused by Perez and not the mother.

Perez will have to remain in custody unable to post bond. It’s looking like the trial will get moved to March.
