Ashley Baumann's drunk driving double homicide trial delayed

MERRILL, Wis (WSAU) - The trial has been delayed for a Merrill woman accused of causing two deaths while driving drunk.

25-year-old Ashley Baumann’s trial was to begin December 16th after jury selection on December 13th. That five-day trial has been postponed.

During a lengthy motions hearing yesterday, defense attorneys said they need more time to go through a lengthy prosecution witness list, and prosecutors said key witnesses including the person that performed Baumann’s blood test is not available the week of December 16th.

Nearly 40 motions were heard yesterday, covering witness lists, which people should be sequestered during the trial, which family members should be allowed in the courtroom during trial, and how potential jury members will be surveyed by mail prior to jury selection.

Baumann faces nine separate charges including homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. The June 7th 2012 crash killed 33-year-old Jessica Hartwig and 31-year-old Misty Glisch of Merrill. 29-year-old Jerrica Woller survived.

The new dates for Baumann’s trial have not been selected.
