WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) A 25-year-old Wausau man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for supplying the drugs in a fatal overdose from 2011. Kevin Mason reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. He could have faced up to 40-years if he was convicted at trial.
Instead Mason pled guilty to one count of reckless homicide and one count of manufacturing cocaine and heroin. Those drugs were used by 26-year-old Justin Selves, who died of an overdose in August, 2011.Eight other charges against Mason were dropped.
Another suspect in the case, Tysun Meeks, is scheduled for trial in October.
Prosecutors claim in court papers that the defendants continued to manufacture and sell drugs after the death -- claiming it was good for business because other drug users knew that their product was strong.
Mason got credit for two-years time served while awaiting trial. He'll be on supervised release for another 10-years after completing his jail term.
