WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSAU) - One of Wisconsin’s U.S. Senators has made a decision on U.S. military action in Syria. Tammy Baldwin says there are no good options in Syria, as many analysts and scholars have said. She also says thousands of Wisconsinites have urged her not to support a U.S. only military strike.
Baldwin says, “The use of chemical weapons is a global atrocity and demands a global response. The various treaties and conventions addressing these issues have been ratified by most of the world’s nations. Devising a precedent-setting response to their violation demands that the world’s nations engage in this discussion. America must not act alone. We must engage a much larger, broader international community on this.”
The Wisconsin Democrat says President Obama was right to come to Congress for authorization to use military force, and believes all Presidents should do so. After a recent trip to Turkey to meet with Syrian refugees, Baldwin says she cannot support a plan where America would be acting alone.
