MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAU) - A couple of Saturday activities are happening in Mosinee to help expand the community’s athletic fields. The MAC, or Mosinee Athletic Complex, will improve existing ball fields and add additional facilities starting next spring.
Bruce Jamroz says the first event today is a five kilometer run and walk. “It’s going to take place at 3:00 p.m. at the high school football field. Participants will be walking or running, and their donation towards that walk/run will directly benefit our Mosinee Athletic Complex.”
During the late afternoon and evening, the community will have music from two area performers. “One is the band Without Excuse, a high school band, and then Joe E will be taking the stage at seven o’clock.”
Construction starts on the three year project next spring. Jamroz says that first phase will also benefit Mosinee High School’s baseball and softball programs. “The complex is going to have nine fields. It’s going to be a combination of baseball and softball fields, youth and adult. It’s also going to have two athletic fields for Mosinee youth football and potentially soccer if needed.”
The project is relying on fundraisers and donations, and Jamroz says they are working on phase one now. “Right now, we are trying to fund phase one, which is going to be a brand new high school baseball field, a brand new high school softball field, a youth softball field, and two smaller football fields.”
The Saturday fundraisers will also have food and beverages available on the grounds.
Jamroz says the entire Mosinee Athletic Complex will take three years to complete. The Army Corps of Engineers will be handling most of the labor and machinery for the job.
