Deputy Chad Kowalcyzk recovering from gunshot wound, shooter held on $1M bond

MEDFORD, Wis. (WSAU) - Taylor County investigators are putting together the pieces after a Westboro man shot a deputy sheriff Sunday.

Sheriff Bruce Daniels declined to be interviewed at this stage of the investigation, but did confirm he spoke to injured deputy Chad Kowalcyzk Monday morning at an area hospital. Kowalcyzk was shot in the abdomen by 27-year-old Alexander Schneider when Kowalcyzk attempted to discuss a court-ordered injunction against Schneider. Kowalcyzk’s present medical condition and which hospital he is at is not being released.

Schneider was previously ordered by the court in early August not to have contact with an underaged girl he had been having sex with since she was 13-years-old. He was free on a $3,000 signature bond awaiting his next court appearance. Now, he’s incarcerated at the Lincoln County Jail in Merrill.

A review of Schneider’s FaceBook page shows he is engaged, enjoys motorcycles and firearms, commented that he wants to go to Syria. He admitted on FaceBook what happened Sunday, saying “I'm sorry everyone I'm dying today shot at the cops all cause I loved a girl.” and says “I'm sorry for who I've become.”

Taylor County Judge Ann Knox-Bauer ordered Schneider held on a one million dollar cash bond Monday afternoon.
