Michelle Obama visits Wisconsin

UNDATED (WSAU-WRN)   “You are what you drink,” so says First Lady Michelle Obama who wants more Americans to drink more water.

The first lady is introducing her new nationwide effort in Watertown, Wisconsin — a small city about halfway between Madison and Milwaukee.

Sam Kass is with Mrs. Obama’s anti-obesity initiative, Let’s Move! ”The reason we chose Watertown is because the first lady will be calling on every city and town in America to make their town a water town.”

Kass says the core message is simple. They want to inspire everyone to drink more water and less soda, though, they won’t say that exactly.

Partnership for a Healthier America President and CEO Lawrence A. Soler says it’s a positive message. It’s not about bashing the competition. ”Every participating company has agreed to only encourage people to drink water, not focus on what people shouldn’t drink or not even talk about why they think their type of water is better than another. Just drink more water.”

The new effort will bring together leaders from industry, entertainment, media and government … promoting water as one of the best and easiest choices any one can make for a healthier life. Soler says many water brands will display the “drink up” logo. Also, many celebrities have agreed to promote water on their TV shows, including the morning magazines and late night comedians. Water is essential to good health; yet, according to Mayo Clinic, needs vary by individual.

The First Lady will join PHA President and CEO Lawrence A. Soler, Watertown Mayor John David, actress Eva Longoria and brand representatives to make this announcement at Watertown High School at 2:30pm Thursday.
