Bull Falls Brewery expansion ready to turn out more beer

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - After a year of construction, some legal challenges, and some help from the city of Wausau, an expansion at Bull Falls Brewery is under operation.

The new construction work was christened on Saturday as part of the brewery's Oktoberfest celebration. The $2 million expansion of the facility was paid for in partnership with the City of Wausau and River Valley Bank. Co-Owner Mike Zamzow says the expansion will help bring more tourists and more money to Wausau. "If we're able to add jobs to this community, it just helps things all the way around. People spending money to buy goods and services here in town and it just helps the local economy and helps our little neck of the woods continue to prosper."

The expansion came along with a push from local legislators to change the way that brewpubs could operate at the state level. Former Assemblywoman Donna Seidel says she and State Senator Jerry Petrowski helped push that through. "Small brewers were beginning to expand, and needed help from the state, not only financially but through legislative language that would permit them to do the kind of things that led to this event today."

The city of Wausau helped as well, creating a new TIF district to enclose the brewery and the surrounding area, as well as vacating a number of streets to make room for the expansion of the project.

The new expansion will allow Bull Falls to start canning and kegging their beer and let them expand their distribution. Local Pepsico distributer Mid-Wisconsin Beverage will be handling that side of things. Zamzow says they've got markets available throughout the community waiting for fresh cans of beer from the Wausau area.
