Wis. U.S. Senators vote opposite ways as government shutdown looms

WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) - Wisconsin's two U.S. Senators voted with their parties this afternoon, as the Senate rejected the latest GOP effort to avoid a government shutdown by delaying Obama-care.

Republican Ron Johnson favored the resolution to keep the government running at 11 p-m, by attaching a one-year delay to key parts of the Affordable Care Act.

The GOP also tried but failed to cut off a new tax on medical devices that's part of the health law.

Democrat Tammy Baldwin, a staunch supporter of the Obama health package, voted against the House package -- thus setting the stage for a partial government shutdown at the October first start of the new fiscal year, barring a last-minute reprieve.

House Republicans were reported to be trying one more time to bargain with the White House on delaying the president's signature health reform.
