WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) -- A closed restaurant gets a new chance as the former Hudson's Burger is Wausau is now the The Milwaukee Burger Company.
The new burger chain bought out the property last year and spent the winter and $1 million renovating the site. The new owners have turned it into a sports bar and burger restaurant. Co-Owner Kent Letnes says the area appealed to them. "We like this part of the state, it fits our concept. We're burgers and beer, we try not to be overpriced or anything like that, we just feel like it will be a good fit for Wausau."
While it might sound like the company is from southeast Wisconsin, their first stores are in Eau Claire, Appleton and now Wausau. Letnes says they're working to keep their food and beers local. "We're going to pay a little more for local cheese but at the same time, we feel it's better we're supporting Wisconsin and supporting the people of Wisconsin."
Letnes says the store may still look like the former Hudson's on the outside but they're working to make it their own now.
The restaurant opens this afternoon.
