Name of victim released from fatal fire near Tomahawk


TOMAHAWK, Wis. (WSAU) -- One person has died in a house fire near Tomahawk. The fire was at W4670 East Pine Shore Lane northeast of Tomahawk.

70-year-old  Kenneth Pietila died in the fire.  He was confined to his wheelchair, and couldn't make it out of the building.

The fire was reported by a man who had arrived at the home to plow snow at 1:34 p.m. He saw flames coming from blown out windows upon arrival.   He also saw tire tracks and wheelchair tracks in the fresh snow.  

Pietila's wife was away from the home in Wausau at the time of the fire.

The Lincoln County Coroner and the State Fire Marshall are at the scene, where there is extensive damage to the structure. The cause of the blaze has not been determined.

Firefighters remain on the scene as of Thursday evening.
