WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) The Wausau Board of Education awarded a $1-million no-bid contract earlier this year to maintain all of the printers and copiers in the district. The Wausau Daily Herald reports the contract went to E.O. Johnson. Other companies say they never had a chance to win the school district's business.
School officials say the contract saved them more than a half-million dollars by having one company handle all of the printing, copying and maintenance work. Other local companies like Hadley Office Products and Office Enterprises, Inc. say they would have liked the opportunity to submit competitive bids.
The contact runs for five years.
Awarding this no-bid contract does not violate state law or school district policy, although several school board members say this contract will be put out for bid when it comes up for renewal.
