Christina Aguilera is encouraging fans to join her in the fight against hunger in her World Hunger Campaign.
The singer, currently on a hiatus from her position as a coach for The Voice , is asking fans to "Pass the Red Cup" by donating $5, which will feed up to 20 children in need.
Christina has volunteered her time as a spokesperson for Yum! Brand's World Hunger Relief effort to raise awareness and funds for the United Nations World Food Programme.
In an impassioned blog on the Huffington Post , the 33-year old entertainer, who is expecting her second child this summer with fiancé Matt Rutler , told the story of her trips to Rwanda and Haiti, and shared her heartbreak.
"Nearly 850 million people go to bed hungry each night. And this includes far too many children," she wrote. "It's a subject so close to my heart and has been for a long time, being a mom."
She explained that many children helped by the program line up for food with a simple red cup, and whatever is served often is their only meal for that day.
"It's so lovely to see them smile and their eyes light up," she said. "Kids come to school for a meal, but they also get an education and a chance for a better life."
Christina is urging her fans to share the message on social media pages using the #PasstheRedCup hashtag in addition to a monetary donation.
