EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WSAU) -- Wisconsin’s tree nurseries are looking for good seeds.
Pat Murphy is the Department of Natural Resources Reforestation Program Leader. Murphy says the state’s tree nurseries need quality native tree seeds to help reforestation efforts statewide.
Murphy says now through September, the DNR is purchasing many kinds of tree seeds from local collectors until they meet the collection goals.
She says they are buying balsam fir, jack pine, basswood, butternut, shagbark hickory, white oak, red oak, swamp white oak, walnut and wild plum tree seeds.
State tree nurseries include the Griffith Nursery in Wisconsin Rapids, the Wilson Nursery at Boscobel, and the Hayward Nursery near Hayward. Murphy says seed collectors should contact one of the nurseries to learn more about the process, and to get information from their website.
There are also numerous private tree nurseries around the state.
