STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- The Bancroft man charged with beating his dog with a hammer, and causing its death will have a different attorney for the balance of his case. 26-year-old Cody Phillips faces those charges. According to prosecutors, the dog was destructive and had been urinating and defecating in Phillips’ Bancroft trailer when he struck it more than once with a hammer.
Defense attorney Jerod Redfield says he requested to withdraw from the case Monday because of what may be seen as a possible conflict of interest. He didn’t elaborate on the possible conflict of interest.
Redfield says Phillips will now be represented by the public defender’s office, and he’s confident Phillips has a solid case because the dog attacked his former client.
