WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- The Marathon County corrections officer that was attacked by a prisoner last March has returned to work.
Julie Christensen started working at the Sheriff’s Department Wednesday morning. Sheriff Scott Parks confirmed that Christensen returned in a part-time limited term capacity, as she continues to recover from the jail attack.
Parks says Christensen has a great attitude, and wants to get back to full time duty. For now, she is working three days a week in the corrections division, but she is not assigned to work in direct contact with inmates.
Julie Christensen was was punched by inmate Frederic Morris on March 27th of last year. She remained in a coma for several weeks, and doctors were not sure if she would fully recover from her severe head injuries.
