COLUMBUS, OH (WSAU) -- Middleton Wisconsin native Tyler Lundeen helped his Ohio State Buckeyes defeat the Wisconsin Badgers in hockey Friday evening. Lundeen had a goal and an assist, and Ohio State won by a score of 2-1.
Lundeen scored the first goal of the game at 2:08 of the first period for the early lead. The Badgers only had 6 shots on goal in the first 20 minutes.
Ohio State got another goal off goaltender’s Joel Rumpel’s leg at the 14:25 mark, putting the Buckeyes up 2-0 after one period of hockey.
The second period had no goals, but plenty of action, as an intentional cross check started a fight which led to matching 10 minute major penalties and a player from each team ejected from the game. The Buckeyes had a power play out of the fight, but the Badgers killed it off.
Wisconsin took 13 shots in the 3rd, scoring their only goal of the night with Michael Mersch at 3:42 on the clock.
The two teams face off again Saturday in Columbus. You can listen to the action, starting with pre-game activities on WSAU 550 AM and 99.9 FM beginning at 6:30 p.m.
