No changes to Wausau's sober server ordinance at committee last night

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Wausau's public health and safety committee did not make any changes to the new sober server ordinance last night.

The committee met to go over the notes and minutes of a large public information session held last week on the ordinance. Local bartenders and license holders met to talk about the new measure which requires those serving alcohol to not be above a .04 BAC. Those who are found to be intoxicated will be given a citation, but not arrested unless some other law is violated.

Mayor Jim Tipple says the committee did put a change of the legal BAC on the floor. "Discussion ensued after that, they voted on it, and there were 2 for it and 3 against, and that's where it stood at the meeting."

Tipple says he hopes the committee will take a look at the language of the ordinance. "Volunteers are not subject to this ordinance as it's currently stated. Some other people stated that the ordinance could be a little clearer so the average citizen could understand what the ordinance's intentions were." For now, it will remain as written.. "This one is pretty broad, and maybe time will tell when some of the problems come through. They may look at revising it in the future."
