American Idol ended its three-night "Rush Week" on Thursday night by announcing its top 13.
Ten boys and 10 girls awaited their fate on the first results show of the season, after performing earlier in the week.
Ten contestants advanced on Thursday night via America's vote: Malaya Watson , Ben Briley , Emily Piriz , Alex Preston , Jessica Meuse , Dexter Roberts , Caleb Johnson , Majesty Rose York , MK Nobilette , and Sam Woolf .
In an awkward moment, Caleb lifted host Ryan Seacrest for a wild bear hug after he learned he had made the cut. Harry Connick Jr. described it as the greatest thing he's ever seen on TV.
Harry, Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban later added three more singers to the top 13 as wild card picks. To earn those spots, select contestants were asked to reprise a performance from Hollywood Week.
Jena Irene performed an original song, "Unbreakable Me," which Keith complimented.

Spencer Lloyd delivered an original song, "Ordinary Girl." J-Lo said she wasn't sure that was what America would have wanted to see at that moment.
Bria Anai offered her take on James Brown 's "It's a Man's Man's Man's World." Harry said it was all over the place.
Kristen O'Connor tackled the Katy Perry single "Unconditionally." Keith remarked that her vocals could have been a bit higher at certain points.

The show ended with the judges announcing that Jena, Kristen, and C.J. had earned the wild card spots. It was the end of the road for Spencer and Bria.
The top 13 will perform next Wednesday night on Fox. For the first time, the voting window will be open at the start of the show; you'll be able to support your favorites immediately in the usual ways, as well as through Google+.
One contestant will be eliminated the next night on the results show, which will feature two musical guests: reigning champ Candice Glover and British singer-songwriter Jake Bugg .
