Deadlines approaching for scholarship applications

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- High school graduation is about four months away, but seniors planning to attend higher education next year need to think about scholarship opportunities now. That’s according to Jean Tehan from the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin. She says students should speak with their school guidance counselor early this week, and see the Community Foundation’s website. “February 1st is the deadline for many of the scholarships that we administer. There are a few that are later than that, but February 1 is the date that if you want to get in on some assistance with your education, we would strongly recommend that you check our website.”

The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin administers several different scholarships, which cover a wide range of programs at universities and technical colleges. “The largest one that we give out is 25-hundred dollars. We have some that provide up to $4,000 over multiple years.”

It’s hard to believe, but Tehan says some funding opportunities are passed up. “The sad thing is that each year, we tend to have at least a couple of scholarships that nobody has ever applied for, and that money is still there.”

Again, February 1st is the deadline for many scholarship programs, but there are some scholarships that take applications later than that date. Tehan says most of the applications can be done online at your convenience by starting at their website.
