WITTENBERG, Wis. (WSAU) -- Emergency crews had to battle both fire and ice Sunday, as five fire departments fought a barn fire near Wittenberg.
The barn was fully engulfed in flames when it was reported to Shawano County’s dispatch center at 4:54 p.m. The structure was owned by Margaret Neitzel, and located on Highway M just south of the Wittenberg village limits.
Wittenberg and Tigerton firefighters spent about five hours in the high wind and single digit temperatures putting out the fire, with tankers and additional firefighters from Birnamwood, Hatley, and Bowler fire departments. The Salvation Army was also on scene for staff support.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
