Marshfield man is third pedestrian to die in 5 days at railroad crossings

MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) -- There's been another train accident in Marshfield.  21-year-old George S. Humphrey of Marshfield was injured at about 2:25 Wednesday at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Vine Street.

That intersection is one of many railroad crossings along Veteran’s Parkway, but is not the one targeted for closure by the Office of the Railroad Commissioner. The next intersection to the west at Veteran’s and Maple underwent a "temporary" closure by the city after previous railroad and vehicle or pedestrian incidents, and was the subject of a citizen survey conducted by the city.

Humphrey was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died.

Traffic was closed for about an hour, but all roads are once again open.

This is the third incident at a railroad crossing in the past week.  A Wisconsin Rapids woman died trying to cross the tracks at West Grand Avenue and Riverview Expressway Sunday, and a Gilman, Wisconsin woman died after being hit by a train last Friday night.
