WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A Wausau man that was connected to many community organizations and educational institutions has died. G. Lane Ware was Chairman of the Wausau based Ruder Ware Law Firm, but he was also the first appointed President of MCDEVCO, or the Marathon County Development Corporation. Ware worked to bring both business and educational opportunities to the area.
Most recently, Ware was involved with convincing the Medical College of Wisconsin to open a central Wisconsin campus, and he’s been active with both UW Marathon County and UW Stevens Point, where he was on Chancellor Bernie Patterson’s Advisory Council.
Along with economic development and education, Ware was very active with the arts. He guided the formation of the Wausau Area Performing Arts Foundation, helped raise money for the ArtsBlock project which led to the Great Hall by the Grant Theatre, and has held leadership positions with the Wisconsin Humanities Council, the Woodson Art Museum, and Aspirus Health Foundation.
Ware had battled a rare blood disorder for nearly a year. Within the last week, he was diagnosed with acute Leukemia. Funeral arrangements are pending.
