Stevens Point disc golf courses packed this summer

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- Stevens Point's city disc golf courses are open and packed this summer according to parks officials.

City parks superintendent Tom Schraeder says the parks have been in place for over a decade now and are drawing a stronger crowd than ever before. "It's something to do for that age group from 12 to let's say 70, that's the ages that's playing it, and right now it's still free so people really enjoy it." The city has three courses, Mead Park, Yulga and McDill. All three are open to the public daily while the parks are open.

Schrader says the parks have already been continually packed, and is asking the players to help out by cleaning up after themselves. "You know they show up with their favorite beverage and leave it there. It would be great if you carry it in, you carry it out. You carry in a couple of sodas that weigh a pound or two. When you carry them out they weigh less, so I don't know why you can't carry them out."

The city doesn't offer disc golf lessons, but Schrader says the players at the parks are willing to help out new players learn the courses and the finer points of disc golf.
