Spiros says medical marijuana bill AB-726 might not pass Assembly

MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) -- An area legislator thinks a specific bill allowing medical use of a marijuana extract for treating seizures might not pass the State Assembly.

AB-726 passed the Children and Families Committee by a vote of eight to one, but 86th District Representative John Spiros thinks the bill may not ultimately become law because of confusion with the medical marijuana issue, even though the extract has no hallucinogenic or addictive properties.

According to Spiros, the medical results can be impressive, helping children who have up to 100 seizures per day live normal lives.

As a former law enforcement officer, Spiros was highly skeptical of the bill at first, but after hearing testimony he’s confident there’s no potential for abuse of the drug for recreational purposes.

Spiros is not sure if the full Assembly will vote on the measure before adjourning the session in mid-March.
