WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Some Wausau City Council members want to find a new location for the Kwik Trip development. The council voted down a zoning change that would have allowed a new convenience store at 17th and Bridge Streets, just off of Highway 51.
Council members Keene Winters, Bill Nagle, and Sherry Abitz are concerned that denial will lead developers to believe Wausau is anti-business. Winters, Nagle, and Abitz sent a memo to Mayor Jim Tipple and the city’s development team urging them to find a different location suitable for Kwik Trip to build on. That memo said, “We cannot emphasize strongly enough the need for immediate action.” and went on to say that, “Wausau is not anti-business and certainly is not anti-Kwik Trip.”
With the project at 17th and Bridge Streets killed, Kwik Trip says they have no other new stores planned around Wausau through 2015.
