UNDATED (WSAU-Wheeler News) Two Wisconsin Army National Guard units will be sent to Afghanistan this spring, as the war in that country winds down. Over 160 members of the 829th Engineer Company will tear down operating bases, and reclaim equipment gathered by coalition forces during the war.
A battery of the 121st Field Artillery unit will provide artillery fire-support for coalition forces who are still operating in Afghanistan. About 80 members of the artillery group will take part in the mission. They're based in Sussex. The 829th Engineer Company is based in Chippewa Falls with units in Ashland and Richland Center.
Their send-off dates have not been determined. Both groups will train at Fort Bliss in Texas before they ship out to the Middle East.
