Medford woman to enter plea in June for animal mistreatment

MEDFORD, Wis. (WSAU) -- The woman accused of abandoning pets when she moved out of a Medford area home will face a judge in June. 29-year-old Callie Neuman was charged after moving in with her boyfriend, but leaving two cats and a great dane dog behind unattended.

Neuman says she was taking the animals food and water, but investigators say the neighbor called in a barking dog complaint knowing nobody was living there. Police found the house covered in feces, urine, and trash.

The animals went to the humane society, where the cats are in good shape, and the dog was underweight when he arrived.

Neuman is charged with three counts of failing to provide proper food for confined animals. She has a plea hearing June 9 at 10:30 before Judge Ann Knox-Bauer in Taylor County court.

Neuman remains free on a $500 dollar signature bond.
