STEVENS POINT, Wis.(UWSP-WSAU) - After a 10-1 trip to Florida, the UW-Stevens Point baseball team rose from fifth to second in the D3baseball.com Top 25 this week. Full poll The Pointers (10-1) trail only defending national champion Linfield (18-3) in the rankings. Of the 25 first-place votes, Linfield received 12, UW-Stevens Point seven and Trinity (TX) got the final six. In Florida, UW-Stevens Point picked up wins over No. 3 Southern Maine, No. 10 Rowan (NJ) and No. 12 Wheaton (MA) by a combined score of 32-14. The Pointers held their opponents to two runs or less in nine of 11 games and logged a team ERA of 2.54 on the trip. JP Feyereisen (River Falls, WI/River Falls), Max Frederick (New London, WI/New London), Luke Watson (Appleton, WI/Xavier) and Cam Seidl (Appleton, WI/Fox Valley Lutheran) all went 2-0 in two starts during the trip. Feyereisen and Frederick each allowed just one earned run in 14.0 innings of work (0.64 ERA). Frederick went the distance in both his starts, including a shutout of Anderson (IN) on March 16, while Watson and Seidl each recorded one shutout. Kyle McHugh (Polonia, WI/Rosholt) led the way offensively for UW-Stevens Point with a .429 batting average and .810 slugging percentage in 11 games. The junior hit four home runs and led the team in RBI (17) and runs (15). Riley Spetz (Sturgeon Bay, WI/Sevastopol) and Brandon Kranz (Waukesha, WI/West) each hit over .420 and tallied double-digit RBI on the trip. The Pointers batted .348 as a team in the 11 games and averaged 8.7 runs a game. UW-Stevens Point is ranked third in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) poll behind Linfield and Trinity.
