MERRILL, Wis. (WSAU) -- Modern technology caught a past criminal breaking the rules.
Lincoln County deputies arrested a 52-year-old Merrill man Sunday evening for violating terms of his probation. The man wears an electronic monitoring device, and the device tells law enforcement more than his location. Modern electronic monitoring bracelets can also detect if the wearer has been drinking alcohol.
Deputies were sent to the man’s Town of Merrill residence after the electronics monitoring center for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections advised the man was violating terms of his probation by drinking. Deputies confirmed the device was correct by taking a breath sample The man was brought to the Lincoln County Jail and is awaiting a court appearance for violating his probation.
Not all electronic monitoring devices can show more than the person’s location, but more and more areas are upgrading to the newer technology.
