WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Motorists will have to watch for more road construction activity starting Tuesday. Weather permitting, many of the large, summer road projects begin or pick up where they left off last fall.
In the Wausau area, expect activity to begin Tuesday at the Highway 51 and Highways U and K interchange at the city’s north side. This multi-year 28-million dollar project will also block Highway K under the freeway all summer, and force motorists to use ramps at Highway U plus some detours to get around the work area. The on ramp from K to northbound Highway 51 and the off ramp from 51 southbound to K will remain open.
Another major project is starting this week in Minocqua and Woodruff. Crews are reconstructing the intersections of Highway 70 west and County Highway J to add turn lanes and new signals. There will be lane restrictions in the work zone until late August.
