Candidate drops out of 3rd Congressional race, wants party unity

UNDATED (WSAU) -- There will be one less candidate for the 3rd Congressional District this fall.

Chris Anderson has withdrawn from the race, and will instead support Republican candidate Tony Kurtz.

Kurtz is a business owner and veteran from Prairie du Chien and will be in a primary against Ken Van Doren from Mauston and Karen Mueller from Chippewa Falls. Whoever survives the primary election August 12th will face incumbent Democrat Ron Kind of La Crosse.

Anderson commented on Facebook that it is necessary to unify behind one candidate to defeat Kind in November, and he believes Kurtz is the right candidate.

The 3rd Congressional District has much of southwestern Wisconsin, but also reaches into Portage, Wood, and Juneau counties.
