MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WSAU-TSN) - Yangervis Solarte belted a three-run homer to back another strong start from Masahiro Tanaka that resulted in a New York Yankees' 5-3 victory over the slumping Milwaukee Brewers.

Tanaka (5-0) scattered seven hits while yielding a pair of runs and fanning seven over 6 1/3 innings to remain unbeaten in his brief major league career. The prized offseason acquisition has now won 34 consecutive regular-season decisions going back to his tenure with the Rakuten Golden Eagles in his native Japan.

Solarte's tiebreaking shot off Yovani Gallardo in the fourth inning and Brian Roberts' RBI double also helped stake the Yankees to a third straight win following a 1-5 stretch.

Milwaukee, meanwhile, has now dropped three in a row and seven of nine since an MLB-best 20-7 start to the season.

Gallardo (2-2) struck out seven over 5 2/3 innings of work, but permitted four runs and walked three.

Mark Reynolds had a solo homer for Milwaukee, while Carlos Gomez went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the loss.

Tanaka worked out of a mild opening-inning jam he created with a leadoff walk to Gomez, who in turn stole second and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. The Japanese sensation proceeded to retire 14 of the next 16 hitters to keep the Brewers off the scoreboard through the first five innings of play.

Gallardo was equally as good early on, but ran into trouble by walking Carlos Beltran to open the fourth and surrendering a one-out single to Brian McCann. Solarte then cranked a first-pitch slider over the wall in right to break the scoreless deadlock.

Brett Gardner followed Solarte's blast with a single and Roberts drove him home with a double down the right-field line to increase the lead to 4-0.

Milwaukee finally got to Tanaka in the sixth. Back-to-back doubles by Gomez and Scooter Gennett put the Brewers on the board in front of Jonathan Lucroy's RBI single that cut the deficit to 4-2.

Consecutive one-out singles by Jean Segura and Logan Schafer in the seventh ended Tanaka's night, but Adam Warren and McCann preserved the two-run margin when the former fanned Lyle Overbay as the Yankee catcher gunned down Schafer trying to swipe second.

Beltran's double off Brandon Kintzler enabled New York to tack on an insurance run in the eighth, as pinch-runner Ichiro Suzuki stole third and came around on a Mark Teixeira groundout.

David Robertson gave up Reynolds' opposite-field homer in the ninth, but fanned Khris Davis and Segura in succession to nail down his sixth save.

Game Notes

Tanaka struck out in all three plate appearances while batting in the majors for the first time ... The Yankees are making only their second-ever trip to Miller Park, having lost two of three there in June of 2005 ... New York swept a three-game set at Yankee Stadium the last time the teams met back in 2011 ... Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez, mired in a 2-for-42 slump coming in, had a single in four at-bats.
