Brewers Off Today, Mull Roster Moves

MILWAUKEE, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The Milwaukee Brewers are off today -- and that gives the top brass some extra time to decide on a possible roster move to keep the offense going.  For the second time this season, the Brewers are without their two biggest sluggers.

Aramis Ramirez is headed toward the disabled list with the strained hamstring he suffered on Saturday night.  And Ryan Braun may or may not return for tomorrow night's home series opener against Pittsburgh -- depending on how his right rib cage feels.

If Braun can't go, the Brewers could bring up Elian Herrera again from Triple-"A" Nashville.  Also, center-fielder Carlos Gomez could learn today or tomorrow how long he'll be suspended for his role in last month's bench-clearing brawl in Pittsburgh.

That could mean he'll be out for the Pirates' series, while at least one Pirate who served his suspension will play.  That's Travis Snider, who had his appeal rejected last week.  Pirates' catcher Russell Martin also had his appeal tossed out, but he won't serve his one-game suspension until he returns from the disabled list.  Brewers' catcher Martin Maldonado has long returned from his five-game suspension, which he chose not to appeal.

Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke says he has complained to Major League Baseball about the Pirates being at nearly full-strength, while the Brewers are struggling to find hitters in part because Gomez could be out. The manager was previously upset that Pirates' starter Gerrit Cole was not punished for his remarks which incited Gomez just before the brawl.  Cole is scheduled to start against Milwaukee tomorrow night.
