RHINELANDER, Wis. (WSAU) -- A street has been renamed in Rhinelander to honor a fallen soldier.
What used to be known as Military Road is now Adams Way. It’s to remember Sergeant Ryan Adams, the Rhinelander soldier killed in Afghanistan while assigned to a convoy in Logar Province during Operation Enduring Freedom. Adams was in the third vehicle of the convoy when it was attacked by rocket propelled grenades in October of 2009.
The Rhinelander American Legion Post 724 and retired Army captain Ray Zastrow with the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs campaigned to have the street renamed. The old Military Road signs will stay on the poles with the Adams Way signs for one year.
