STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- The Portage County deputy sheriff involved in an off-duty shooting inside his home has not returned to work yet.
Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Gischia shot and killed a masked intruder inside his home May 17th when he returned with a female companion. They learned the intruder was 30-year-old Charles Jameson, who was familiar to both Gischia and the woman.
The Portage County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed Gischia is on paid administrative leave while Wisconsin Department of Justice officials complete the investigation into the scuffle and shooting, along with Jameson’s apparent application of flammable liquid throughout the house.
It’s not clear when the investigation will wrap up or when Gischia can return to duty.
