1 killed, 14 injured in crash involving Pulaski school bus

PULASKI, WI (WTAQ) - One person is dead and at least 14 others are hurt following a crash involving a Pulaski school bus and a car.

Authorities say the bus was carrying the Pulaski High School volleyball team. 13 of those hurt are students, with 8 being rushed to the hospital.

The only passenger in the car died, while officials say the driver remains in critical condition.

Sheriff's say the crash took place at the intersection of Highway 29 and St. Augustine Drive near Pulaski just after 9 p.m. Tuesday. The crash has shut down the westbound lanes until further notice.

The school bus ended up in a ditch after the crash, which badly damaged the car.

According to authorities, the bus was driving on St. Augustine Drive before trying to cross Highway 29. The car was driving on Highway 29 and ended up striking the back end of the bus.

The Pulaski volleyball team was returning from a match at Seymour High School. Both the JV and varsity teams were on board the bus.

School officials say there will be counselors available for any students who need help.

The district released a statement, saying, in part: “The Pulaski Community School District is focused on the safety of our students. Our crisis plan has been implemented and will be in effect tomorrow and in the following days. We will continue to support our students and their families.”

Authorities are trying to figure out what led up to the crash.
