The Sun Has Set on Kallaway's Blog-A-Pa-Looza

I've had this blog for some years now and now it's time for a name change, look change, feel change, It's change time. There is an actual reason for all this. We're going through a huge change with our web commitment. Now-a-days all the jocks bang out a ton of content to give you more of what happens behind the scenes. I read all of the other ones we have...Stacy's, Belky's, Mike's, Tony's..and they all take wifc.com in a different direction. That's a GREAT thing and that's my plan. Take you in new directions. Open your mind. Give you different angles on the world. Plus, have fun! Blogs get a bad rap sometimes, but blogs are for information, sharing, and stuff we see that we think "you just have to see!!" Tomorrow..we get the new look going..and under a new, very cool, name!! ((Bonus Keyword.."changetime"))
Good Subject Matter...
Got through another round of "attitude shots." This one rocks! Good lighting and Good Subject Matter!
Give me Attitude Baby! Yeah!!!
No secret..I'm a photog freak. Love taken pictures. This week was "take really cool attitude pics of our airstaff" week. My goal..just use one light...a flashlight. So I asked each of our WIFC peeps to go into the station bathroom, turn off the lights, pitch black and turn on a little LED flashlight. I took this photo of Mike Mathers..I said "give me hey yo wassup man" kind of a thang. He did. Here it is....(thanks guys!)
WIFC's DISCO CURES CANCER Check!!

The whole 95-5 WIFC crew went over to Aspirus Hospital to give them a very cool present...a check for over $23,500 from the WIFC Disco Cures Cancer Event #12!!! Yeah Baby! It was a great turnout, the Rothchild Pavillion was filled with happy dancers in October.. making money for this tremendous cause! We have our super fund set up at Aspirus who use this money for patients who need cancer care. So for now, in the Disco off-season..get your polyester collection rockin' and we'll see you next year! Thank You Soooo Much!!!
New Name Ideas for my blog...

Looking over listener ideas for what to call my blog..great response but I need more! "Scotty give me more power" "but Captain"...that kinda thing! I've had entries like "Dave's BlogAway" and "My Special Thoughts" (which sounds like something you'd hear on Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood), and my current favorite "Kallaway's Ramalammadamadingblog." Yeah...that's not hard to say at all...tee hee!! But hey..the more ideas the better. I have our I.T. guys working on the look of the blog..that's going to change too. So names...please...meditate..tweet me..put 'em on facebook..e-mail me at dave.kallaway@wifc.com Whatever it takes...Yoooo Can Dooo It!!!
Bonus Keyword...
Put in "Rude" for the Kallaway blog bonus keyword on 95-5 Rewards. And a question for you..Was Carrie Prejean rude on Larry King? Or was she justifed in calling Larry "inappropriate?"
Carrie Prejean won't answer Larry King's question
Time to change up this blog....
In your business is it true that "the only thing that stays constant is change!" Man..it's true in the radio bizz. My guess is that we all..all the jocks you hear on WIFC..spend about 50% of their time on radio shows, events, and appearances and the other 50% on the web updating our web site, blogs, twitter and facebook. The blog I wrote yesterday about AIDA was done and loaded at 11:15pm last night. I have never worried about working on stuff at night, but I do "wonder" if what I'm writing matters. It would blow my mind if listeners flocked to this blog to get any kind of fix daily. I have been writing it to reflect what I'm interested in. Now-a-days though..blogs either share info of the author's life or they put something on their blogs that feed your curiosity. Pop Culture items, my streaker photo featured a few entries back (big hits on that!), or what crazy thing a celebrity just did that you have to see. I think what I need to do is find a different spot to feature stuff I'm interested in "personally." I'm okay with all of this. Blogs are not the total end all for me..probably you too, right? But I do want to write and create a blog that most listeners will dig and want to come see. First order of business..what do you think the new blog could be called? E-mail me at my new address at dave.kallaway@wifc.com let's see what we can do with this baby! (((Keyword: "change")))
AIDA at D.C. Everest...
Tough to put a play together. I've done it before and now with AIDA..D.C. Everest has this baby down! Saw the rehearsal and took a ton of pictures. Always a challenge to shoot pictures in a theater. But back to the show..the costumes, the singing, the music of Elton John..you get it all with AIDA. It starts Thursday! Break a leg guys!! (no sense taking a normal photo..here's one of my "poster" pictures from AIDA)
Please!! A little more of this!!
Played frickin' golf on Sunday November 8th..NOVEMBER!! WOW!! And loved it. The word is that some golf courses have to close down after Wednesday because there will be hunters in the area. I get that. But that means..don't put the clubs away until after Wednesday, right? 56 degrees Wednesday. Schwing! Fore! Let's Go!
Streaker at Packers-Bucs Game...
Tampa Bay Bucs killed the Packers 38-28 after having a record of 0-7. Also had a 21 year old rookie quarterback. And to top it all off..Tampa Bay were wearing horrible "throw back" uniforms. So we sucked. But check this out. Back in the day..streaking used to be all the rage. This guy came out to streak at half time. I guess the police didn't think this went with the "throw back" theme....
Giant Squirrels up on Rib Mountain!!!
Had fun with my latest trek up Rib Mountain (number 30 for me..thank you very much!). My walking partner, Heather "used to rock on WIFC Weekends" Stone, and I hiked the yellow trail that takes you through some wonderful woods, big mossy rocks, and great scenic overlooks. We got to the very top and found this giant squirrel. So I posted it on Facebook and said "look at the giant squirrel!!" The best post right after that said "Yeah..and it's wearing a hat..scary!"
Tragedy at Ft. Hood...
The news of 13 killed, 30 wounded at Ft. Hood Thursday brings another level of fear to war and potential that our soldiers are being sent to war. Let the speculation, fact-finding, and opinions rev up now on what exactly was the shooter thinking when he gunned down so many. I just want to point out that Stac' and I get calls from troups that are on their way to Ft. Hood. Not all of them, but some tell us that they are "scared to go." Makes sense and that's normal. But to hear this news..it's gotta add more fear to an already fearful situation..the deployment to go fight in Iraq or where ever they're needed in the world. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the military. More to come....
If I could Pick My Paradise....
I've gone to several cool spots that would be great to visit again if I could win our current "WIFC Pick Your Paradise contest"..a $1000 travel voucher..dig that!! I think back to trips to England, New Orleans, Clearwater Beach, Florida, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Atlanta, Chicago, Minneapolis, Glacier National Park in Montana, Mexico, and the coast of California from San Diego to San Francisco...WHOA..stop!! Right there. San Francisco. Yes. That's the place. That is the place that if I could blow a 4-day getaway somewhere I'd say.."let's go to San Fran." Why? San Fran is the motherload for historic things to see, new sites to see, and no shortage of great food. I great time to go to San Fran is over the 4th of July. That's when my wife and I went with friends and it was fantastic. Yes..the city was super crowded when we went, but that's when you feel the buzz. And a city of that size (although when you compare to other well known cities..it's pretty small)..they can handle big crowds! Must see spots in San Fran would include the Wharf..gotta go there to shop, to get on the water, to go to Alcatraz, to eat, and take a ton of pictures. Also..that bridge...the Golden Gate Bridge. Go see it from the water..best spot to get the fog, the mood, the "Bridge." it's awsome! And then at some point when out there..go across the bay to Salsalito. Find the little itty bitty restaurant called "Hamburgers." It's like the "cheee burger, chee burger" place you used to see on Saturday Night Live!! The best hamburgers! So that's my take. One way or another..it's just great to getaway. Think about San Francisco....((took this pic when it was almost completely dark outside..a lit bridge..only one of 8000 angles to enjoying this awesome structure))
Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin to host...
Love, love, love Steve Martin. And now there's word that Steve along with Alec Baldwin will co-host the Oscars!!! Yeah..and I mean Yeah on that!! Who the host is for award shows makes all the difference. I loved Billy Crystal and even David Letterman the one year he gave it a try. But Steve is a writer..a comedy writer..and Alec is funny and he understand funny. So the combo...perfect. Bring on the Oscars..they just locked me in by picking Steve and Alec!
Ahman Green After PackAttack...
The Brett Favre Show...
Congrats to Brett Favre and the Vikings..the dominant team in the NFC North this year. To the Brett Favre lovers out there all ready to go "AH HA Dave".."What do you think now???" I think Brett is about to set a ton more records. He set them in this game with the Vikings at Lambeau..throwing at least 4 touchdowns in 21 games now to tie Dan Marino. Howie Long made a very true statement.."Packer fans are the only ones left with an emotional attachment to Brett Favre..everyone else has moved on." Man is that true or what? So glad our games against the Vikings are over. To those who want to continue the debate on "who left who" And whether it was Brett, Ted, Mike or a combo of all of the above who made it so Brett wasn't going to be a Packer anymore...knock yourself out. As for me..I made the 16 year emotional investment in Brett Favre. It's somebody else's turn now.
Jean Michael Cousteau at Sentry World

Ever hear the term "this is the right guy for the job." Can't think of anybody more right for the job of saving the ocean than Jean Michael Cousteau..Jacques Cousteau's son. Talk about a legendary family for ocean and marine life research..is there anybody more popular?? He spoke at Sentry World Theater to a packed house. In between talking to us he let us see "his world" of diving all over the world with DVD clips. We saw Figi, the Amazon, the Artic, whales, weird pink dolphins, gigantic 800 grouper fish, and sharks. A couple of key notes. His Dad is the one of the guys who invented the modern day regulator for scuba diving..didn't know that. Also..a kid asked "how many times Sean Michael had dived??" He said "they give out awards when you dive 5000 and 10,000 times...I have all those awards." Very cool man...a treasure.
So I'm talking to Aaron Rodgers....

And I say..."ya know what you get when you take Brett's 4 jersey from the Pack, the Jets, and the Vikings and add them up..??" Aaron says "What Dave?." I said "you get 12 !!" Glad I could help Aaron....some Packer math there buddy....call me!! ((LOL))

Grey's Anatomy...fewer doctors, and grosser..
I love this show, but it is really going through some changes. You all know by now that George is dead, run over by a bus. Izzy is gone (for now?). And a whole slew of new doctors from the hospital merger need to wear name tags because we don't know them yet!! So we'll see where this goes. Still plenty of good characters. Heck..they even rent their people with other shows like "Private Practice" where Addison lives now. But the other key factor...have you noticed the "gross" factor has gone way up?? They are now showing the cutting, the guts, the blood, the squirts from whatever vein and Kallie with her "putting bones back into place"....no big deal to show all of that on t.v. now. I have to be honest..when they started showing all that...I had to turn away..just for a second. But now-a-days it's nothing. I said to my wife.."I wonder if this would make someone decide to go into medicine or not watching all this blood?" If you could handle it...off you go to Med School...if not...construction, writer, marketing, computer gigs..all still look good...right?
Are you reading this from home....
Wouldn't surprize me. The Flu, Cold, Crud is totally going around. I got the flu, Stac' has a horrible cold, I heard that some of our marketing people are out now dealing with flu. Also, a friend of mine has a neice in a dance class that is currently missing 12 out of their 19 dancers. You've heard about the area schools that are closing up for a week at a shot to help kids get well. And that's the point today. There really is no better way of dealing with all of the sickness around in our area than staying home and staying away from others. It really sucks to get out of your groove and have to do deal with being sick, but ya gotta. Heal Up. I've said it everywhere..in the hallways, on facebook, twitter, and texted all my co-workers....HEAL UP!! WE CAN DO THIS!!!
This Packer brought the Heat!!!!

Oh man..thank you Green Bay Packer Safety DERRICK MARTIN!! Some guests come in and just head straight to the stage to be interviewed by TV 9's Brian Graff. This guy though...wow..I went backstage at Dales Weston Lanes..ready to bring him out to the crowd..he does the stretch thing and says "let's do this!"..and off we go! As soon as I introduce him to the crowd he goes into show mode! He High Fives the crowd, jumps up on stage and then really, really does a great job during show. He was funny and interacted with the crowd really well. Loved having Derrick Martin as a guest! Hope he comes back soon to PackAttack! Mark it down..Former Green Bay Packer Great Ahman Green is coming to visit PackAttack in December!
HUGE DISCO THANKS....
Disco Cures Cancer 12...WOW BABY WHAT A BLAST! WIFC has been in disco mode for quite some time..it kinda takes over our lives for a while.. the payoff is you coming to this event. A massive thanks to everybody at WIFC, Aspirus (who handles our fund), to the Rothchild Pavillion and that amazing Jeff Campo..(I'm not sure he totally realizes what he's done in bringing the Pavillion to life), to Underground DJ's who simple have the best gear (it was sub woofer-ville this year..I am still rumbling aren't you???), to the Mosinee Chamber of Commerce who poured beer for us, to all the volunteers..this thing goes smoothly cause of you. And a really big disco spin hug, love, and "thanks for hanging in there" props to my wife, Elaine. I was the main DJ this year..it was an extra responsibility that ate into our dancing this year. Thank goodness we did get to "boogie" a bit...cause that's what this whole thing is about. Having fun, dancing, and raising money for the cause.
