STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — An annual fundraiser to benefit youth programs in Portage County will be going virtual this year.
Friday evening the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County and the Stevens Point Area YMCA will be hosting a virtual murder mystery for their 19th Annual Passport to Paradise fundraising event. The event will be held on Zoom from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening.
Boys & Girls Club Director of Resource Development and Marketing Mikayla Kleifgen says the event will be fun for all ages with the Zoom accessibility. “People will enjoy a night of trying to figure out clues. Hearing from actors and community actors such as Mayor Mike Wiza, UWSP’s Stevie Pointer, and a couple of principles from the elementary schools here in Stevens Point.
“The event will allow people to chat in teams and try to figure out who the killer could be. And help one of the main characters clear their name from being accused as being the killer. So it’s a fun night for all ages to get together and do something a little different but still, have fun.”
The event sponsored by Sentry will raise funds for the two organizations and their work with those under the age of 18 in Portage County. Kleifgen says the funds will be used by several different programs.
“The funds are supporting both the YMCA and Boys & Girls Club of Portage County. Funds raised at this event will help with the youth programs such as Healthy Habits, arts programs, the Stevens Point Area YMCA summer camps, our teen programming. And it will help us continue to do whatever it takes to meet their needs.”
Tickets to the event are still available on the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County’s website. Tickets are $25 each and include the Zoom link and a Harry Potter grab-and-go kit that includes Portesi Pizza, Stevens Point Brewery Soda, and Harry Potter-themed items.
